Specialty Disposal Services, Inc. has extensive experience in the preparation of laboratory chemicals for disposal. Our highly trained lab pack technicians are familiar with handling chemicals and most importantly, respect the potential reactive properties that may exist in each chemical compound. It is with the utmost commitment to safety that our technicians keep in mind the proper handling of chemicals when lab packing. All lab chemicals packed by SDS are transported directly to the designated disposal facility. No repacking occurs to any of the lab pack containers prior to arriving at the final disposal facility.

Specific SDS lab packing services include the following:

  • Identification of unknown chemicals utilizing on-site characterization testing
  • Proper segregation of chemicals according to RCRA hazard classification
  • Proper packaging and labeling of chemicals according to Dot regulations and disposal site requirements.
  • Remote opening of potentially reactive chemicals
  • Stabilization on-site of potentially reactive lab packs
  • Proper completion of all manifests, packing slips, and associated documentation
  • Chemical moves and relocations including temperature sensitive items

To become a lab pack specialist SDS requires extensive training prior to packing chemicals which includes some of the following programs:

  • 40 hour OSHA Hazwoper Hazardous waste training/ refresher
  • Reactive chemical properties
  • OSHA Emergency Response Awareness/Operations
  • OSHA Hazardous Communications
  • DOT HM-181/126F
  • OSHA Blood borne pathogens.
  • Red Cross CPR/Safety
